My husband took 1000 mg of niacin for 2 days and has hives all over his body. He also has developed a chronic cough with it. We went to a medical Dr and they prescribed Zertec and Benadryl. Its two days later and the hives are still present. Should he go to another Dr or let it run its course?

I started taking 2mg of Niacin (Nicotinic Acid is the only one to take. The others don’t work), after tests showed Triglycerides of 700, rather than 100. I’m super fit, so must be heredity. Along with diet, 1mg cinnamon, Krill Oil, all my numbers went to better than recommended!

I then went to 1500mg, then down to 1000mg. One Slo-Niacin morning and night.

Last night, I must have gotten a bad pill and overdosed!
Really bad flush that lasted an hour. Itching. Very rapid heart beat. I ended up crawling around on the bathroom floor like being badly drunk. As my wife came in and I was sitting on the toilet, I passed out and vomited. (about 5 sec). She was dialing 911 as I came back.

I have now QUIT taking Niacin!!! I’ll stick to the others mentioned above.
