Amoxicillin Overdose

Amoxicillin is one of the Penicillin Antibiotic drugs which is used to fight the infection from the bacteria. It is mainly used for the infections related to Ear, Bladder, or Pneumonia. It is also used to treat Stomach ache. It is one of the most popular, and useful antibiotic available in the market. However, it can be really threatening and dreadful if the Amoxicillin amount is in overdose in the patient. The Amoxicillin Overdose may be accidental and unintentional; however, it can also be intentional. It is very important to understand the symptoms, signs and minute details of the Amoxicillin Overdose, so that one can become ready and at the same time prepare for the medical help.

Symptoms of Amoxicillin Overdose

A normal overdose of the drug leads to mild dizziness and nausea. Sometimes a minor abdominal discomfort has been felt by the patients of Amoxicillin overdose. If the quantity of overdose is large, it can causes blood in urine, flue like symptoms and yeast infection. However, in severe conditions, urine output is reduced and eyes become yellow and swollen.

The conditions like flu like symptoms, runny nose, body ache and fever is sometimes misinterpreted as allergy. Other potential symptoms include vomiting, nausea and diarrhea. Few patients have experienced the swelling of face, hands and feet.

Another possible sign of Amoxicillin overdose is Jaundice that causes the yellowing of eyes and skin. Few patients have complaint about the development of Anaphylaxes due to Amoxicillin overdose that causes sore throat and difficulty in breathing. Another signs includes rashes on skin and chest pain.

Treatment of Amoxicillin Overdose

The treatment for overdose of Amoxicillin varies from one person to other. If the overdose of the drug occurred recently then the doctors uses tube to place it in stomach and then pumps the stomach to pull back the drug. Sometimes, after the overdose patients are asked to vomit out the consumed drug.

In some severe cases doctors uses dialysis to filter the Amoxicillin drug from the blood stream.  The overdose of the Amoxicillin does not have any specific antidote however it can be cured by the consumption of well balanced electrolyte. The treatment consists of the administration of activated charcoal. The last option is consist of using gastric lavage if the condition of the patient is critical.

    Hi ive had to take omoxicillon now for over 2bmonths because of a dental issue. Is it a side effect of burning in mouth and teeth. Drowsy feeling
